Are there refunds if guests leave due to rain?
No, but you can check with the ticket booth before you leave HHF to see if they will give you a raincheck, allowing you to return on a future date.
Can I bring my own food?
No, though we do sell lots of yummy food onsite. We have a large covered area and picnic tables that are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Additionally, we do have private tent areas that can be reserved for groups or parties.
What age is Historic Hawes Farms most appropriate for? Do adults have to pay to come in?
One of the great things about HHF is the fact that it offers something that everyone, of all ages, can enjoy. From babies, all the way up to grandma and grandpa, our goal is to make sure everyone in your group leaves with memories to cherish. Thus, yes, all ages 3+ do pay admission. Visit our AGE GAUGE page to see what activities are best for each age group.
How scary are Haunt Nights at the Farm?
Our haunt nights are most appropriate for older children and adults. We like to say 12+ is ideal, but since each child is different, we leave it up to you, as the parent, to decide if your child would enjoy the haunted experience. However, there is plenty for younger children to do on our haunt nights besides the haunted attractions. We also have special Family Nights every Thursday for those wishing to enjoy the ambience of the farm at night without the crowds and haunted activities. See our Calendar and Pricing page for more details.
How big is the maze?
The two mazes (the day maze and the Filed of Screams haunted maze) are cut into 8 acres of corn.
How long does it take to get through the maze?
It all depends on how many wrong turns you take. The average person will finish the maze within one hour. The Field of Screams haunted maze, on the other hand, is shorter and should only take about 20 minutes to navigate. Some people have taken a lot longer and a few a bit quicker. For those who are worried about how long it will take to finish the day maze, we do have Corn Cops in the maze who can help you find an exit. We also divide our maze into two phases so that you can either stop after completing one half, or continue on for the ultimate challenge!
Will I get lost?
We hope so! It’s designed to be that way. While everyone does get lost to different degrees, we have designed the maze to be an interactive activity that makes a trip inside the maze more than just a walk through some corn. At the beginning of your visit you have the option of selecting a game that will help guide you through the maze.
How do you make the maze?
It’s taken lots of practice…10+ years of it to be exact! Our particular process of making the maze is a trade secret, but we can tell you that we plant the whole field in the summer and then cut out the design when the corn plants are still fairly short. The design is created on a computer and then transferred into the cornfield.
Can I eat the corn?
You could, but it would not taste very good. The variety of corn that we grow is field corn for cattle.
Can I leave and come back later in the day?
Yes, you do have in & out privileges (with the exception of field trip groups) to come and go throughout the day/night.
Is HHF wheel chair accessible?
HHF is on unpaved farm ground, but we do our very best to make our event as accessible to all our guests as possible. Wheel chairs, strollers and wagons can be brought on premises and are able to complete half of the corn maze, but the ground (like any farm) can be bumpy in spots. The remainder of the event is spread out over grass, and dirt and gravel (to keep the pesky dust from blowing) that could be somewhat difficult to push through in some areas.
Do you have restrooms?
There are indoor restrooms on the farm grounds.
What forms of payment do you accept?
HHF accepts cash and credit card at our admission windows only. For schools and non-profit groups (including church groups), group payment can also be made by check. For all food and other attractions not included in the gate admission you must purchase Hawes Bucks. We also have two ATM machines onsite if you need cash for Hawes Bucks. They are conveniently located, one before entering the farm, and one by the food area.
What are Hawes Bucks?
Hawes Bucks have no cash value and are only good at Historic Hawes Farms food, beverage, and attraction windows. Hawes Bucks can not be redeemed for cash. We also have an ATM machine onsite if you need to purchase more Hawes Bucks.
Are pets allowed?
Though we are big animal lovers, pets are not allowed inside our event, with the exception of service dogs. In these cases, we ask that your dog be kept on a leash and that you please clean up after any messes.
Do you ever close due to poor weather?
Extreme, unforeseen weather can force us to close at any time and an announcement regarding any weather closure will be recorded on our phone hotline and posted here online. If you are at HHF when we close, you can request a rain check to return another day.
Is there any recommended attire?
Because we operate in October, we always advise you to check the local weather forecast and then dress accordingly to your comfort level. We also recommend wearing closed-toe shoes or sneakers. Remember that you will be in a farm atmosphere and should dress appropriately for the best experience.
What are your busiest and slowest times to visit?
Fridays and Saturdays are our busiest days/nights of the week. Sundays are usually the least crowded day in which every daytime attraction is open. Haunts are closed Sundays. Monday and Thursday nights are the least crowded, but less attractions are open as well. You may want to plan your arrival between 4-6 p.m. Friday or Saturday evening to avoid long haunt lines, or 10-11 a.m. on Saturday mornings if you are looking for a smaller crowds upon entrance.
If I buy my ticket online, do I have to print it out?
Online tickets will be emailed to you and you have three options once arriving at our ticket booth:
A. Present a printed copy of the ticket
